Our hotel is located close to the Rideau Canal Visitor Centre, the premier interpretation center for the historic Rideau Canal river system!
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, the man-made Rideau Canal has played an important role in the expansion of Canada, as its creation connected more Ontario Lakes to the outward flowing St. Lawrence River without crossing through the United States. The canal today is famously runs through the city of Ottawa, often photographed in the winter, populated with skaters and riverside shops.
The Visitor Centre features exhibits that showcase the importance of this massive Canal. Dating back to its original construction in 1826, the museum looks at the canals impact on Canadian history and the people who worked on creating this iconic landmark. Visit three floors of exhibits and enjoy a 15-minute presentation, all housed in a 19th century-stone mill.
The Visitors Centre is a great place to visit with kids! Club Parka allows kids ages 3-6 to participate in games and activities that teach them about Canada’s natural wonders and the Rideau Canal itself. Older kids can enjoy the Parks Canada Xplorers program where participants search for clues while learning about the iconic Canal!
